My Current Workout Routine

I almost titled this blog post “Slow Girl Workout” but then decided against it at the last minute. I feel like slow girl indicated that I wasn’t dripping sweat and didn’t feel strong afterwards and ya know what, I feel the opposite when I finish my current work outs so I thought I would share today what has been working for me.

Before I start, I want to say — I am not someone who loves to workout. I love how I feel afterwards and I love how it starts my day off when I work out in the morning but I am not someone who loves to spend time working out and I definitely have to choose habits over motivation most of the time to stay consistent. I also want to say that I am actively working through an autoimmune disorder and because of that my joints often hurt and I often feel myself filled with inflammation so the scale doesn’t always reflect the hard work I am doing working out which can be discouraging. I share that because it is easy to give up and to stop working out when you can’t necessarily see it but feeling it is what matters most and my mind and body are stronger when I take the time to exercise.

Okay, with that out of the way, here is what I am currently doing…

  • 30 minute incline walk on the treadmill (3/12/30) — Speed of 3, Incline of 12, 30 minutes total

  • 15 minute Barre class on Peloton App

Seems a little too simple? Well, I am definitely in a season of simple and I want to remind you that it is okay if you are too.

I know my body and I know that right now, an hour long HIIT class is not what is best for my body. I also know that the Peloton Bike while I love it, feels very harsh on my joints lately in a way that the treadmill doesn’t. I have learned to honor where my body is and what movement will serve it best in different seasons and I would encourage you to listen to your body and what it needs as well before you start any kind of routine.

Friends, daily movement isn’t about just losing weight or training for some type of competition. Moving your body supports your wellness inside and outside, from head to toe. Choosing to move your body is a privilege that we shouldn’t take for granted and one that supports all of our other goals as well. I pray that no matter how you choose to move your body you will be reminded that you are strong, courageous and capable of anything you put your mind to.
