SKINCARE
OOOF, I feel like this is such a loaded topic and since I am no expert part of me feels like I shouldn’t even be writing this post. But, I do want to share my experience so I thought I would just preface it with…I am not an expert, what I am doing was recommended by my experts and this is just my experience/what I use that I am sharing.
Anyways, with that out of the way….let’s get started.
A few years ago if you would have asked me my skincare routine I would be one of the awful people who said they didn’t have one. I know, I know. I was in my early 30’s and I should have had one but my skin was clear, I was washing it every night and just kind of stopped at that since my skin wasn’t an issue. I know that isn’t why you have a skincare routine but thats what I thought so thats where I was.
Fast forward to 2020/2021 and my candida overgrowth diagnosis and my skin was a hot mess. I mean, I looked like I was in high school my skin was breaking out and red so bad. It made me super insecure and super frustrated. After seeing my functional medicine doctor he assured me that it would clear up in time but that it was one way my body was reacting to the candida and trying to scream for help. If you didn’t know…acne always has a cause and from what I learned, most of the time that cause is in the gut.
So, I started a home care regimen from Young Living and took my supplements. I was also on the candida diet pretty hard core but honestly, my skin didn’t budge. Sure, I would have days it looked better and seemed to be healing but then I would be back at square one again. It was defeating so say the least. I started to feel like it would never get better when I finally had a lightbulb moment and thought “why am I doing this alone…I don’t have to!”
I saw a dermatologist because I was also due for a yearly skin check and she gave me Retin-A and told me to come back and see her in 3 months. I looked at this little tube and thought, I have no earthly idea what to do with this why don’t I seek some extra help and get a facial and see what they say.
I have 3 words….best idea ever!
Locally, I go to FacePop in Sarasota and have had the very best experience. They are so knowledgeable and so caring and when I left there after my first appointment, I felt hopeful about my skin for the first time in a really long time. I saw Sarah and she couldn’t have been sweeter and more welcoming….just a shameless plug for her if you are local! LOL
I have done 2 treatments 6 weeks apart so far and have 2 more on the books before we reevaluate and make a continued plan for phase 2 of treatment. I am doing a series of specific treatment right now to bring hydration back to skin and to unclog my pores which were wrecked by my candida overgrowth. Sarah also has me on additional supplements and a simple twice daily regimen using DMK products which are medical grade products. It was so exciting to go in for my second treatment and already see progress being made.
If you are someone who is also suffering from skin issues no matter what the cause, I highly encourage you to seek help…just like everything else, you don’t have to go it alone and having a professional to walk alongside you is life changing. It not only gets you on the right skincare regimen but it also gives you support because being an adult with acne is not fun and can be really discouraging. It is definitely a financial investment but one that is worth it and I know you won’t regret!
If you have any questions what about I am specifically using or any questions about where I go, shoot me an email, I would be happy to share more1
