WHOLE 30 UPDATE

Hey there friends! I thought this picture of one of our graphic tees from Shop Rooted and Free was appropriate seeing as how coffee is one of the things that stops people from doing Whole 30! Lol. And, I totally get it….I love my morning cup of coffee and the thought of giving that up for 30 days….no thanks! ✌🏼

Anyways, I thought I would give an update on Whole 30 that Joe and I started on January 10th!

So…..the short of it is…..we did Whole 20! 😂

But, hear me out!

20 days in I had lost 11 pounds and Joe lost 16 pounds and we were feeling really good. I mean, I was sleeping better, I was gaining strength in my workouts, my sugar cravings were gone and I was doing really well. So well, I decided that I was no longer going to count the days and instead, just make this a lifestyle.

Now, eating like this 365 days a year is not sustainable, at least not for me and my family. I know this about us and so instead, we decided that Monday - Friday every week we are going to eat Whole 30 and then enjoy our weekends and holidays. This will help us not feel so restricted when we have a date night, a birthday or a party we are going to. But, it helps us stay mindful of our eating and how well we feel when we are eating this way.

I am also doing intermittent fasting and not eating until 12 noon everyday. My fasting window will be 12 pm - 8pm every day because my body (especially my gut) does better when I have an eating window and I am giving my GI system a chance to work and break. Now a caveat is, if I am truly hungry and need to eat, I will. I am not going to not feed my body what it needs but, I am noticing that I have a better GI system when I do this.

All in all, I am SO glad that we decided to do Whole 20 (LOL) and I think in those 20 days, we accomplished exactly what we set out to accomplish…to break bad eating habits, curb sugar cravings and get rid of the bloat we were both feeling.

Will we be perfect with this? Nope…but we are going to do our best and I am really excited for what 2022 means for our health as we continue to be more mindful of what we are consuming.
