SKINCARE FOR PRE-TEENS

Savannah is now 11 and going to middle school this fall (insert, how did we get here already!!! LOL) but…she has expressed interest in starting a skincare line and I think now is a great time to help teach her how to get into those good habits of caring for her skin.

Since we are on a journey of low-tox products, I wanted to make sure we started with products that I trust on her skin and I knew going to a big box store would just give me a bunch of chemicals and fragrance to choose from and I wanted to go down a different path.

I started to research and together, we put together a plan for her to start and she is loving it! And, I am loving that Young Living made it pretty much a one stop shop for me once I grabbed a couple supplies.

If you have a preteen (or teen…or anyone really) that you are looking to get started on an easy to use and maintain routine here is what we used/do.

What we used //

1 oz dropper bottle - I purchased these from Amazon

Jojoba Oil - I purchased this from Amazon

5 drops Valor

5 drops Ylang Ylang

10 drops Lavender

Purchase bundle of oils here

Why did we choose each oil //

It was important for me to choose oils for Savannah that wouldn’t be harsh on her young skin and would promote balance, moisture and help prevent the inevitable breakouts. Here’s why we chose each oil…

  • Valor - This powerhouse oil contains blue tansy which is found in most high end skincare that you would “normally” purchase. It has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties and is known to help with skin and reducing any inflammation. Plus, it offers a lot of emotional support and we all know preteens, there’s a lot of emotions!

  • Ylang Ylang -Promotes circulation and reduces inflammation. It has a calming effect and also is known to be harmonizing which again, emotional support also very important.

  • Lavender - known to cleanse and calm irritated skin and minor cuts/burns. Also helps with acne and scarring so this one felt like a no brainer and the oil we should use the most of.

How to use //

Each night in the shower, Savannah washes her face. Once she is out and dried off, she places a small drop in her palm and rubs in circular motions around her face, avoiding the eyes.

Easy peasy!

The cool part is that you can use Valor, Lavender and Ylang Ylang in many other ways around your home so investing in these oils goes far beyond just this skincare routine. And, the oils will last you a long time as will the dropper bottle so while the initial investment may be a little more, I would best these products last us so much longer than something we grabbed from the grocery store.
