NON-TOX SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
Wellness Wednesday is back in action today as I share with you one of the easiest ditch and switches I have made in my low-tox journey. I shared in this post how and why I started my wellness journey and 2 years later I am still working on my low-tox lifestyle.
Now, before we continue I want to say that I try to follow the 80/20 rule when it comes to a low-tox lifestyle. I will never be 100% non-toxic, that is actually not my goal. My goal is to make better decisions as I continue to learn and while I try to do better everyday, I will never be perfect at it. And, I don’t want to be. Here’s an example…on an everyday basis, I use oils as my perfume (usually KidScents KidPower, Stress Away or Peace and Calming) but on date night or a special event, I will wear perfume.
When you remember that a low-tox lifestyle isn’t all or nothing but more about balance, it makes it easier to navigate and takes the pressure off. You don’t have to ditch everything to make an impact in your home and life.
Anyways, one of the switches that I made was my shampoo/conditioner. When I started to ditch and switch, I read that about 98% of shampoos and conditioners have fragrance in them and since fragrance was something that I was really trying to ditch because of my sinuses, I knew I had to switch. If you are curious about the products you use, you can check the rating on EWG or the Think Dirty App. Or, if you just google it, you can find lots of information about the most popular products.
The bottom line is that a vast majority of popular brands use ingredients that make your hair look beautiful on the outside, but are also damaging it in the long-term, stripping it of vital proteins and moisture that it needs to be healthy. And, as you use the products you are being exposed to all the chemicals that effect your body negatively.
So, now you know why I switched…what do I use?
You guessed it, Young Living. YL is my easy button when I am ready to switch to something without all the chemicals.
My go-to is the Lavender shampoo/conditioner and that is what I used to start with when I first switched, but sometimes, I am craving a change and go for the Copaiba Vanilla one too. I love them both and now enjoy switching back and forth between the two. I have also switched my body wash and am working my way through my hair products and make-up as well but as with everything, it will be a process.
If you are also interested in making this easy ditch/switch I created an easy to use bundle here where you can grab my favorite bath and body products.
