Benefits of Ice Rolling

One of my goals for 2024 was to focus all around my overall health and wellness.

I wanted to add in daily and weekly routines that supported my mind and body well that wasn’t just eating a balanced diet or exercising. Those things to me are a no brainer and something that I need to consistently work on but as I creep closer to 40 I knew that there were other things I could add in to support.

Enter, ice rolling!

I grabbed an ice roller off Amazon for pretty cheap and went to researching all the benefits of ice rolling and started to ice roll every other day in the morning while I make my coffee, start my diffusers and get ready for my quiet time.

Spoiler alert, I love it so much! The girls have also started to add ice rolling to their skincare routines and they love it too. Not only does it have many benefits but it feels so nice especially in the morning and the ice roller comes in handy when you have a headache or need a quick ice pack for something.

So, what are the benefits to ice rolling?

  • Ice rolling shrinks your pores.

Ice rolling can help shrink pores, which can prevent dirt and makeup from clogging your skin which leads to breakouts.

  • Ice rolling reduces puffiness (my favorite benefit).

Ice rollers can reduce puffiness because they constrict blood vessels under the skin's surface. It also helps distribute lymphatic buildup evenly, making your skin look smoother.

  • Ice rolling enhances product absorption.

Ice rolling helps stimulate blood flow, which can help your skin absorb products more easily, especially when used at the end of your skincare routine when done at night.

  • Ice rolling aides in lymphatic drainage.

Ice rolling can help increase lymphatic drainage, which can help your body flush out toxins. To help with this, work the ice roller towards the outer edges of your face.

  • Ice rolling reduces inflammation and redness.

Ice can reduce swelling and inflammation by restricting blood flow. This can help reduce swelling and redness from acne pimples, and can also compact the outer layer of your skin to help products penetrate more easily.

  • Ice rolling tightens the skin.

Ice can help tighten your skin by stimulating blood circulation and reducing the size of your pores.

  • Ice rolling boosts circulation.

Ice rolling can boost circulation by bringing blood to the skin's surface, which can help restore radiance and encourage cell function.

How do you use the ice roller?

  • Prepare the ice roller

Put the ice roller in the freezer for at least 15 minutes, or until it's cold enough. I typically just store mine in the freezer and grab it in the mornings so it is always ready but if you don’t want to do that think ahead a little so you can use it when planned.

Pro Tip:Make sure it's completely dry before freezing, or liquid may freeze and stick to your skin, causing ice burn. When you take it out, test it on your arm to make sure it's not too cold for your face.

  • Cleanse your skin

Remove any makeup or dirt before using the ice roller. You can use whatever gentle cleanser you love.

  • Roll your face

Use the ice roller to gently massage your face in a zig-zag motion, starting on your forehead, then moving down your nose and cheeks. You can apply more pressure when rolling upwards on your lower cheeks to help lift your skin. Roll for about 10–15 minutes, or until the ice roller is no longer cold.

Have you ever used an ice roller? Do you use it as part of your weekly or daily routine?
