5 Lessons from my Sourdough

I’ve been baking sourdough for a year now and the lessons it has taught me have been even better than the bread itself (which is actually amazing too). I never thought that when I started baking sourdough that I would be come so attached to it but the truth is, the process is something that feeds my soul so much. It really helps me to slow down, to end the hustle and to focus on something that is nourishing - to my mind and my families bodies!

Sourdough has taught me so much over the last year and today, I thought I would share with your the 5 lessons that sourdough has taught me that I feel super focused on right now -

1️⃣ Time is the most valuable thing.

It isn’t money. It isn’t stuff. It’s always time. Sourdough isn’t hard and it doesn’t take a lot to make but it does take time commitment. And investing the time is always worth, much like anything in this life we want to build.

2️⃣ Don’t over complicate it.

What I love about sourdough is that it’s simple and straightforward. I tend to want to over complicate things and bringing it things back ti simple forms is usually best.

3️⃣ If you mess up, just keep going.

We all mess up. In the kitchen and in life and you know what…the world doesn’t end. Discard the mess up and keep going, with bread and everything else.

4️⃣ It’s going to get messy.

Sourdough can be messy but so can life. Embrace the mess because it always looks worse than it is and when you clean it up, the “prize” is waiting for you!

5️⃣ Enjoy the journey as much as the end result.

Sure it’s heat eating the bread but making it is my favorite. With baking or anything in life we have to enjoy the journey not just the dedication, it’s cliche but oh so true.
